The best AI video generator depends on the shot, the input references, and where you will edit the result. Start with those requirements, then compare the exact model and provider route. This guide covers six options; it does not report a controlled head-to-head quality test.
Sora is no longer a current option: its web and app experiences closed on April 26, 2026, and OpenAI lists September 24, 2026 as the shutdown date for Sora 2, Sora 2 Pro, and the Videos API. Google’s Gemini Developer API Veo 3.1 preview also closed, on October 22; Google Cloud’s GA Veo route is separate.
Last verified: 2026-10-28. These are documentation and ChatCut integration-review facts. No new provider generation or deployed-production test was performed for this update.
| Verified fact | Source |
|---|---|
| Sora 2 / Sora 2 Pro. API shutdown date was September 24, 2026; consumer app/web closed April 26 | OpenAI deprecations; Sora notice |
| Full Seedance 2.0. 4–15 seconds; image/video/audio reference modes; multi-shot prompting and synchronized audio | BytePlus API; Seedance 2.0 guide |
| Seedance 2.0 resolution. Official full-model output includes 4K. ChatCut currently offers up to 1080p because 4K pricing is not wired; configured-endpoint 4K acceptance remains unverified after connection timeouts | BytePlus API; ChatCut route review, model matrix |
Veo 3.1 on Google Cloud. Native synchronized audio; Cloud lists video-only and video-with-audio variants. GA veo-3.1-generate-001 supports 4/6/8-second clips | Cloud model card; Cloud pricing |
| Veo 3.1 Gemini API preview. Preview endpoints shut down October 22, 2026; this is separate from the Cloud GA route | Gemini API notice |
| Seedance 2.5. 4–30-second base generation; separate model from 2.0 and its Fast/Mini variants | BytePlus Seedance 2.5 guide |
What makes an AI video generator useful?
Motion realism. Review the full clip, especially people, fluids, fast movement, and camera changes. A convincing opening frame does not establish that the motion works.
Audio integration. Check whether the exact route generates sound, allows silent output, and supports the dialogue or ambience you need. Native audio still needs listening and lip-sync review.
Controllability. Compare first/last frames, subject references, camera directions, and shot-order prompts. Reference support helps guide appearance; it does not guarantee identity preservation.
Editing. Decide whether you need a single downloadable asset or generation inside the project where you will trim, caption, and mix it.
Cost per approved clip. Include rejected takes, input-video billing, audio settings, and editing time. A headline price without a model ID and settings is not a usable budget.
Six generators to compare by job
1. Seedance 2.0 in ChatCut: generation inside an editing project
Seedance 2.0 is one of ChatCut’s AI video generation routes. It supports text, first-frame, first-and-last-frame, and multimodal-reference workflows. Full 2.0 produces 4–15-second clips and can follow multiple ordered shots in one request; one continuous take is a prompt choice.
The official model generates synchronized audio by default and documents an audio-off control. The inspected ChatCut route keeps audio enabled. Full 2.0’s official 4K output capability does not mean ChatCut currently offers 4K generation; see the dated distinction above. Generation, upscaling, and final editor export are separate steps.
For references, select up to nine images, three videos, and three audio clips within the request’s combined limits. Audio references need an image or video reference. Keep first/last-frame mode separate from multimodal-reference mode.
Check the current estimate before generating; credits policy owns ChatCut’s current rates. The former flat three-credit example is not a current quote for every duration and resolution.
2. Google Veo 3.1: compare the Cloud route and audio settings
Veo 3.1 supports native sound, including synchronized speech and effects. The old claim that it has no native audio was wrong. Google Cloud lists both video-only and video-with-audio variants, so the opposite blanket claim that audio can never be disabled is also wrong.
For current API work, distinguish the GA Cloud model ID from retired Gemini Developer API preview IDs. The Cloud model card documents 4/6/8-second generation, with some input modes requiring eight seconds. Its extension guide adds seven seconds to an eligible input of up to 30 seconds, for up to 37 seconds total; this is a route-specific rule, not a universal Veo duration. See the Cloud extension guide.
ChatCut’s inspected video tool exposes Gemini Omni, not a Veo selector. A Veo result made externally can be evaluated as an imported asset; this article does not establish a working ChatCut Veo adapter.
3. Runway: evaluate the exact generation and reference tools
If your priority is a brand or recurring character, compare the reference tools and editing workflow in Runway’s current product. Test the costume, product label, background, and face across your actual shots before choosing it.
The earlier 16-second Gen-4 ceiling and claims of category-leading consistency are not established by the sources reviewed for this update. Do not use them to rank it above or below another route.
4. Kling: check generation availability before planning a sequence
Kling is another option to evaluate for references, camera motion, and storyboarded sequences. Match the model version and mode to your intended workflow rather than borrowing limits from another Kling variant.
ChatCut’s Kling new-generation route is currently suspended in the inspected integration. That does not establish that the underlying model lacks a capability or explain the provider account’s funding or entitlement state. Check the model matrix before building a ChatCut workflow around it.
5. Pika: evaluate the effect you need
For a stylized social clip, review Pika’s current effects against your brief. Check the result’s subject stability, export format, watermark, and current plan terms. This update does not establish a quality ranking, review score, or render-time guarantee.
6. Hailuo MiniMax: name the model version
Hailuo and MiniMax H3 are distinct model lines. Do not assume a Hailuo mode inherits H3 reference channels or native audio. Compare the exact ID, valid duration/resolution pair, and price for the mode you intend to use; MiniMax’s official guide distinguishes the APIs.
Which workflow should you compare first?
| Your requirement | First check |
|---|---|
| Generate assets inside a ChatCut project | Available Seedance route, references, and preflight estimate |
| Generate dialogue and sound through Google Cloud | Veo GA ID, audio variant, and supported duration |
| Maintain a product or character across shots | Reference inputs and visual review on every candidate model |
| Build a storyboarded sequence | Ordered-shot support, total duration, and ability to edit individual shots |
| Produce a stylized social effect | The specific effect and export terms |
| Control a recurring budget | Cost per approved asset, including retries and reference inputs |
What about Sora?
Sora’s retirement dates are in the past as of this update. Keep exported assets you already hold, and rebuild any new-generation dependency on an available route. Reuse the shot brief and references, then review the replacement output; a different model is not a drop-in visual match.
FAQ
Are any of these AI video generators free to try?
Trial credits, paid-only models, watermarks, and regional eligibility depend on the provider and account. Check the current offer before starting. A free editing plan does not establish that a particular generation is free; in ChatCut use the displayed estimate and plans and credits guide.
How long can a single AI-generated clip be in 2026?
Full Seedance 2.0 supports 4–15 seconds, and Seedance 2.5 supports 4–30 seconds. Google Cloud Veo 3.1 base generation supports 4/6/8 seconds. Extension and multi-shot prompting are separate from base clip length; neither makes a one-minute single request valid on a 15-second route.
Can I generate videos with people in them?
Rules depend on the model, route, and reference asset. Review the provider’s current people/reference policy. Generated people also need visual and continuity checks before use.
What about commercial rights?
Read the terms for the exact service and plan. A model’s availability through several providers does not make their output-use terms identical, and a watermark-free file does not itself establish permission.
Should I learn one model deeply or try them all?
Compare a small set using the same brief, choose a primary workflow, and retain the references and prompt settings that produced approved results.
Where does ChatCut fit in this picture?
ChatCut combines generation with editing in a project. Check the current selector and model matrix for available routes; the six products in this article are not six working ChatCut adapters.
Try the in-editor workflow
Open a ChatCut project, check the selected model and estimate, and try:
Generate a 5-second cinematic establishing shot of a foggy coastal town at dawn, slow drone push-in, warm muted color grading
When the task completes, review the motion and sound before placing the clip in your cut. Completion time and whether a take is usable depend on the request and provider.
